Are libraries accessible for persons with reduced motricity ?

How to find the nearest library?
Plaine commune is composed of 21 libraries and 1 mobile library. Find out where the closest one is, on the page Libraries and opening times.

Each library has its own opening hours. Find them on the page Libraries and opening times.
How much does it cost ?
Registering, borrowing and taking part to activities… everything is free!
Do I need a library card to walk into a library ?
Of course not! The access is free and opened to anyone. You are allowed to read documents (books, newspapers, comics…) on site and to benefit from every service.
Is my child allowed to visit a library on her or his own ?
Your child can come, stay on her or his own and enjoy activities organized by librarians. However, he/she is strictly under your responsibility.
May I work on site ?
Yes! Study spaces are available in Plaine Commune libraries, to work in a quiet space, or in groups. Feel free to use our computer services, internet connections and the Wi-Fi.
Can I return documents to a library other than the one where I borrowed them ?
Yes. Only music instruments must be returned to the library you borrowed them.
For how long ?
For four weeks. You can extend your loan period to a month more on the libraries website on the page Mon compte when your logged in, or in your library.
Borrowing a DVD forbidden to people under 12, 16 or 18 years old.
Lending permissions change according to the age of the card’s owner.
How do I renew my loan ?
Extending a loan period can be done from your online account, by phone or with a librarian. This allows you to keep the document a month more, if it is not already booked by someone else.
How many documents can I borrow ?
You are allowed to borrow 30 documents at a time, including 10 DVDs.
Is it possible to return a document when the library is closed ?
Yes. Some libraries are equipped with special return boxes, where you can drop your documents. During opening hours, returning a document is possible in any library and without the library card.
At what age can I have a card ?
There is no age limit for library cards
Can I have a library card if I don’t live in Plaine Commune ?
Of course yes, and it is free!
Can I have a professional card if I work for a local authority ?
Yes, if the local authority is located in Plaine Commune.
Please bring a supporting document. You will then be able to borrow 50 books and magazines for three months.
Because of loans rights, you are not able to borrow CDs, DVDs or CD-ROMs with this professional card.
Do I need a library card to walk in a library ?
No, the card is only useful to borrow documents and to use online resources.
How can I get a library card ?
Go to any library with these following documents:
- For someone under 18 years old: a parental permission, filled by the adult responsible of the child and a recent letter showing name and address.
- For an adult: an identity document and a recent letter showing name and address.
The card is free.
How can I know the ending date of my subscription ?
The ending date is indicated on the page Mon compte, when the user is connected.
I forgot what I borrowed… What can I do ?
- Ask a ticket when registering your documents on the interactive kiosk.
- Look at the website page Mon compte, in the tab “Prêts et demande de réservation”.
- Ask a librarian to inform you about your documents (please, to do so, bring your card).
What is my password ?
If you registered before the 15th of December 2016:
Use your previous password (the two first numbers of your year of birth and the three first letters of your surname in capitals. Ex: 60DUP).
You are allowed to change it if you wish so.
If you registered after the 15th of December 2016:
Use the password you received by text message or given to you by the librarian when you subscribed.
You are allowed to change it if you wish so.
Can I book a document ?
Yes, you have the possibility to place up to four reservations on your card and to select the library from which you would like to collect your items.
You will be informed by text message or email when your documents are available: you will then have 15 days collect them.
You can place your reservation online or with a librarian.

Can I book a computer before my visit ?
Yes, you can book a computer in advance, for an hour a day. You can book it online, contact your library by phone or ask a librarian.

Can I have access to the Internet and to the Wi-Fi in my library ?
Yes, and these services are free.
You can search websites from the libraries digital spaces, even if you are not a member.
In libraries equipped with the Wi-Fi, you can bring your own computer, your smartphone or your tablet (a valid email address will be required).
Can I print documents ?
Yes, printing services are available and free in your library’s digital space. Please bring your own a4 white paper.
I don’t know how to use a computer, can I get some help ?
Yes, computer training workshops are organized in your libraries. Please subscribe to these free workshops with a librarian or by phone.
Do libraries offer digital resources ?
Libraries provide access to a platform called MédiaTIC. The subscription is automatic when you register in the libraries network.
The MédiaTIC, what is it?
The MédiaTIC is a platform giving access to free digital resources.
It provides:
- Movies, videos, and music to watch and listen online
- Learning methods for languages, traffic regulations or office software
- Children space: games, movies, learning methods and educational resources
- News and magazines
- MédiaTIC presentations are regularly organized in your libraries.
How can I be informed about new documents purchased by libraries ?
On this website, you can find a selection of new documents on the French homepage, as well as on the French page Nouveautés et selections.
In your library, new items are indicated by a colorful sticker “ça vient de sortir”. You can also consult the list of recent acquisitions, including books, CDs and DVDs.
Can I suggest to the network to buy a specific document ?
Yes, you can send a suggestion to the libraries network if a document is missing from the catalog:
- In French, by using the online contact form
- In your library, by using the suggestions notebooks
Librarians will answer to your suggestions and buy the document if it fits with the purchasing politic.
An orange bus is parked in my neighborhood, what is it ?
Two mobile libraries move around Plaine Commune’s districts. They are called “bibliobus”. They give you the opportunity to borrow, return or book documents.
Find out where to find these mobile libraries and discover a selection of books, magazines and movies. The team also organizes activities for adults and children.
I cannot remember my login and my password
Your login is the nine numbers written on your library card.
I do not receive your letters, emails or text messages
Please check if your address and phone number are valid on the French page Mon compte, or ask a librarian, who will check it for you.
I have damaged or lost a document: what shall I do ?
Please ask a librarian: they will restore it, if it’s possible.
Lost or damaged documents must be replaced, or repayed.
In any case, inform us as soon as possible. We will help you to find the best solution to the problem.
I have lost my library card
Let us know as soon as possible. A new card will be given to you 15 days later, if you still cannot find it.

Please check again if you are not in possession of this document and talk to a librarian.
Is it possible to donate documents to the libraries network ?
Yes, but they must be recent, in excellent conditions and fit in our purchasing politic.
